I was diagnosed with bartonella infection after contracting cat scratch disease, which was complicated by my underlying heart condition of tetarology of fallot and pacemaker/valve implants . Because of this complication, I was aggressively treated for endocarditis, which required a 6-week course of IV antibiotics through an implanted PICC line. During my two week hospitalization, I was unable to work and as a result, I lost pay and accumulated hospital bills. The total cost of my hospitalization and lost pay is approximately $2000.
