Help Pay for Cindy's Recovery

Hi, I’m Paige and I am raising money to help pay for medical bills and home health care for my mom. I’m 17 and my brother Austin is 15, and she has a husband, Matt, who has been by her side every step of the way.

On July 7, 2021, my mom, Cindy Wilson (age 49) had a brain aneurysm and was airlifted by helicopter to Tulane Hospital in New Orleans for emergency surgery. She had several brain surgeries and has suffered right-side brain damage. She was not expected to survive but she did, and she is a fighter. After six long weeks in ICU, she was transferred to a long-term care facility to recover from her pressure wounds before moving on to rehab.

On October 13, she was moved to Touro Rehab where she has improved every day. Rehab has been tough, but she is improving, both physically and mentally, just at a slower pace than we hoped.

She went from not being able to eat solid food, to eating only through a feeding tube, to now eating some of her favorites like homemade gumbo, salmon, and chocolate cake. Her G tube is now only used for supplemental water or nutrients.

She is now more alert but still fully dependent and needs constant care. She still has no movement on her left side and cannot stand or hold herself up without help which means she needs someone to transfer her from the bed to the wheelchair or anywhere else she wants to go. She still needs to be turned every two hours, especially at night to prevent her bed wounds from getting worse and to prevent a new one from forming. We are still waiting to hear her sweet voice again.

Unfortunately, Touro is discharging her. We are hoping to continue her brain injury rehabilitation even when she returns home. While she continues to improve it is still a very long road ahead and the medical bills and the costs for home healthcare are immense. She needs physical, speech, occupational therapies, wound care, specialized equipment, and home adaptations. In addition, we are not trained enough to be the sole caretakers and will need outside help once she is home.
