Hi my name is Brittney daughter of Sergio Maldonado, we’re asking for help & support on this very unexpected emergency. My dad had an excruciating headache nonstop for two weeks straight so on Saturday Dec 17th we finally admitted him to the hospital and after doing some tests they discovered bleeding in his brain his condition is called “Subdural Hematoma”. He now has to have two procedures done, one to burn/seal off the ruptured vessel and another procedure to drain the blood in his brain. We are lucky to have caught it in time because this could have turned fatal or caused severe brain damage had it been undetected. My dad unfortunately has no health insurance and is the main provider for the family. Since this incident he’s been out of work. He’s an independent contractor with no benefits or paid sick leave. We aren’t sure how we’re going to afford our rent, car notes, bills, utilities, hospital expenses and just about everything for the coming month. This is a major burden on us especially during a time that’s supposed to be cheerful and for celebrating the holidays. Many of you know my dad is a fun good hearted spirit, always laughing, making jokes and just a bright energy to be around. He has surprised me by how positive and optimistic he’s been during this whole situation, it’s me that’s been the emotional wreck. My dad is my best friend, my everything, I don’t know what I’d do without him, this has been one of the scariest moments of my life knowing I could’ve potentially lost my dad. Hola, mi nombre es Brittney, hija de Sergio Maldonado, estamos pidiendo ayuda y apoyo en esta emergencia tan inesperada. Mi padre tuvo un dolor de cabeza insoportable sin parar durante dos semanas seguidas, así que el sábado 17 de diciembre finalmente lo ingresamos en el hospital y después de hacer algunas pruebas descubrieron sangrado en su cerebro, su condición se llama "hematoma subdural". Ahora tiene que someterse a dos procedimientos, uno para quemar/segar el vaso roto y otro procedimiento para drenar la sangre de su cerebro. Tenemos la suerte de haberlo pillado a tiempo porque esto podría haberse vuelto fatal o haber causado un daño cerebral grave si no se hubiera detectado. Desafortunadamente, mi padre no tiene seguro médico y es el principal proveedor de la familia. Desde este incidente ha estado sin trabajo. Es un contratista independiente sin beneficios ni licencia por enfermedad remunerada. No estamos seguros de cómo vamos a pagar nuestro alquiler, billetes de coche, facturas, servicios públicos, gastos hospitalarios y casi todo para el próximo mes. Esta es una gran carga para nosotros, especialmente durante un momento que se supone que es alegre y para celebrar las fiestas. Muchos de ustedes saben que mi padre es un espíritu divertido y de buen corazón, siempre riendo, haciendo chistes y solo una energía brillante para estar cerca. Me ha sorprendido por lo positivo y optimista que ha sido durante toda esta situación, soy yo el que ha sido el desastre emocional. Mi padre es mi mejor amigo, mi todo, no sé qué haría sin él, este ha sido uno de los momentos más aterradores de mi vida sabiendo que podría haber perdido a mi padre.
