Help pay for Biggie's Emergency Surgery

Biggie is a young beagle that grew up in a research facility at Cornell University. Biggie is adorable, calm, loves to play with people, and is the best cuddler in the world. Although he is a scaredy-cat, Biggie escaped his home to go on an adventure and was injured when he was hit by a car. He was rushed to the hospital, where his prognosis seemed good: He only had a broken leg. After several tests and x-rays, it became clear to Biggie’s vet that he would need surgery to repair the tissue damage and make a full recovery.

After this horrible news, Alaa, his owner, was blindsided when Biggie’s vet provided him with an expensive estimate of $5000 to perform the surgery. He exhausted his savings paying for the first surgery, and he was able to take Biggie home on Tuesday. Unfortunately, there were complications after the procedure, and Biggie was diagnosed with a bowel obstruction and possible complications, which meant he will need another surgery with a new estimate of $6,000-8,000.

Alaa is a dedicated and loving dog dad, an advocate for diversity in STEM, and a full-time graduate student working on cancer research! Facing such a large vet bill and Alaa being unable to afford pet insurance as a graduate student, we decided to start an online fundraiser to raise the money for Biggie’s medical expenses. Alaa is already worried every day for Biggie, and we hope to at least alleviate some of his financial stress so that he can focus on what really matters. That is that Biggie gets the surgery he needs and recovers fast! If you can donate, please consider contributing to Biggie’s campaign.
