My name is Ben Frommelt, and on Thursday 7/14 my girlfriend and I’s 6 month old puppy was struck by a vehicle in front of our house. He was rushed to the emergency vet clinic where they told us he was suffering from severe head trauma along with internal damage. At that moment, the vet gave us the option to start treatment spending upwards of $5,000, or to let our sweet boy go. We agreed to continue the treatment, as we knew that letting him go was not an option.
The veterinarians started by giving him an IV filled with pain medication and fluids to help ease his injuries. Beau was also connected to an EKG due to his labored breathing. After taking an X-ray of Beau’s body, we were relieved to find out that he had not broken any bones. However, he had endured major damage to his organs. Most of the blood in his body rushed to his organs to try and repair them, including the blood from his brain, leading the vets to believe he was suffering head trauma. They decided that the best approach was to give him a blood transfusion to replace the lost blood and help restore oxygen back to his lungs. We received an update from the vet a few hours later that Beau handled the transfusion very well. His red blood cell level returned back to a safe amount and breathing became a lot easier for him.
We went to visit Beau today and were completely shocked when he WALKED into the visiting room. Everyone there said that Beau has been the sweetest boy and has been wagging his tail left and right. He even tried to jump out of his kennel this morning!!. They said that Beau has come a lot farther than they expected him to which was reassuring for us, but we know there is still a long way to go.
Beau has been very brave and has been fighting very hard to stay with us. He has currently spent 2 days in the ICU, and will probably spend more. However, the longer he stays in the ICU, the more expensive his bills become.
Anything helps truly, thank you.
