While my mom was on vacation in Mexico, she was diagnosed with pneumonia, and it all went down hill from there. She had a loss of appetite and being a diabetic on insulin that causes complications. She fell into a very deep sleep on Tuesday, Feb. 16, and hasn't been conscious since then. She was admitted in a hospital in Mexico for 4 days, they diagnosed her with metabolic encephalopathy due to hypoglycemia. They inserted a nasal tube for feeding and pretty much sent us home. She is unresponsive and immobile. She has had little progress as of her release such as slight leg and arm movements. She was released from the Mexican hospital on Saturday night. As she is an American, as a family we decided that she should be seen by her normal doctors. As she is immobile we had to seek an aero ambulance to transfer her to a hospital here in Houston. That was a pricy decision, but there is no dallar figure that wouldn't be paid for her to be in better hands. She is in the neurological ICU at Ben Taub.  All the test they have ran show no answers for her current condition. They ran a CT, chest Xray, blood test, a cerebral lumbar fluid testing for infection or bacterias, and all test have been normal. She is in line for an MRI to see more in depth as to why she isn't responsive. We are all hopeful and praying for a speedy recovery. We are also aware that we will need to be patient. Any help is welcomed, especially prayers. I want to thank you all for taking the time to read our story. This was all so sudden, and everything has happened so fast. We are now a week and 2 days into our mom being unresponsive. We still have no true answers to a firm diagnosis. The only firm diagnosis is covid positive in the hospital here showing no symptoms, even though she showed negative at the hospital in Mexico. We will keep you all posted on any updates.
