Help With Paul’s Final Expenses
Donation protected
This is my son Paul. He is 30 years old, non verbal autistic. He was diagnosed with a rare cancer, cervical esophageal. I have stayed at the beside 24 hours a day for the past month that he has been hospitalized to ensure he is not scared and is receiving the best possible treatment. He aspirated while here in the hospital and spent 4 days in the ICU. Because of this he is unable to receive radiation and chemotherapy in an outpatient setting. He is too high risk and no doctor will treat him. We will spend the next 6 weeks in the hospital for him to be treated. He will have to be intubated and receive general anesthesia 28 times for his radiation treatments. In totality we will spend 2 1/2 months or more here in the hospital.
This is an unexpected traumatic situation. I am fortunate enough to qualify for FMLA, but there have been expenses associated with this. We live far from the hospital, my husband, son and parents visit when they can. We are paying parking, gas and food for me to eat. Life continues outside this hospital room, I still have bills that need to be paid. When Paul completes his treatment he will need medical equipment for home. I would like to throw him a welcome home party and take him out to do the things he loves.
Paul is a beautiful soul, through all he has been through, is going through and what is yet to come he still smiles and we get an occasional laugh. His autism already limits his life, now it has complicated his cancer treatment. He misses his home with his dad, brother , his dogs, grandparents and the rest of his family. He doesn’t understand why he has been away from home for so long and why all of these things are being done to him. I would trade places with him in a heartbeat, he is much stronger than I am.
