3/1/25: In a sad update my Love has been back in the hospital since February 7th. He was in a lot of pain, he couldn't breathe and he couldn’t keep anything down. It turns out that he had another tear in his esophagus, which caused an esophageal leak, which caused a bacterial growth in his chest cavity and on top of that he has abscess in his stomach.
We don't know how long it's been going on, however I do know when we went to Stanford in January he did not have a tear, they even did 2 biopsies and say they didn’t find anything just that he had esophagitis, gastritis and a stomach infection...
He is currently in the hospital and will be there for at least another month. He received another stent to close the tear in his throat so no eating or drinking anything for awhile. He’s also on antibiotics for the bacteria growth in his chest and abscess in his stomach. He has 4 tubes, 2 in his back, one in his stomach, and one on his side draining all the puss out of his body. Since he has abscess in his stomach they are unable to place a feeding tube so he is only receiving nutrients and water through IV, and IV isn’t as filling as the feeding tube…
The worst part of all this is when they tested the fluid from his esophageal leak they found cancerous cells and they are saying throat cancer We are so devastated but we also have high hopes. Doctors say right now that the cancer situation is on the back burner until he heals. I’m a little confused wondering why Stanford didn’t find cancer in the 2 biopsies they did on his throat and wondering if it could be from somewhere else, there are so many unknowns right now but like I said, it’s kind of a waiting game until he heals. Trust me I am on his doctors trying to find out as much as I can.
I’m heart broken over this and ask if you can keep him in your thoughts and prayers, he really needs it right now. Thank you so very much to everyone that has reached out, prayed for him and donated, it means a lot to us ❤️
5/20/24: The hospital tried to release him and it was a little crazy because since he’s had to turn around and go back 4 times. The last hospital stay he had he went in for an ulcer at the end of his intestines. They then sent him home with his feeding tube, chest tube, and a home nurse. He was ok the first couple of weeks but then he started having some complications. I’m concerned that his surgeon took out his feeding tube too early, and during that he also removed his chest tubes. Since then, he has been having trouble swallowing and keeping his food down, throwing up pretty consistently. So now that he doesn’t have his feeding tube, he’s not getting all the nutrients he needs. Some days he can’t even eat or drink anything because it hurts him, he says it burns or that it gets stuck. He continues to lose weight and currently weighs 146, he’s weak, fragile and in constant pain… The saddest part for me is when I hear his stomach growling and I can’t even feed him anything Finally he was able to see his GI specialist and she scheduled him for a procedure on June 5th, they are trying to get to the bottom of whats going on doing an endoscopy, entering through his esophagus to take a look at everything again and he’ll also be getting a colonoscopy because his doctor is concerned he might have some sort of cancer which is so scary I’ll have some updates after the 5th. This has all been very hard for him physically and mentally, but he’s so strong and puts on a happy face, still trying his best to live a normal life and do normal things, it’s just not that easy for him. Thank you everyone for everything ❤️
1/8/2024: Day 33 at the hospital and after 20 days in ICU we got some good news, they moved him a step down out of ICU, but it's not the end of the road yet... He had his 3rd stent put in 9 days ago and last Monday they placed his feeding tube in his stomach. They started using this tube 2 days after that and slowly increased his food intake, now he is receiving all of his food this way, that means his nutrition should improve and he'll have more energy to fight everything he has going on. They also put an NG tube in which is a long tube inserted into his nose and threaded into the stomach so his stomach bile doesn't effect the healing of his throat. He is still battling pneumonia/MRSA and the 3 tubes coming out of his lung are still draining the infection. They did a culture on the infection coming out of his lung and switched his antibiotics so hopefully that helps. His blood infection is slowly improving which is also great news Right now they are saying he won't be able to eat/drink for 2 months but we are hoping he heals sooner. He's not going home yet, he still has a long road to recovery and more surgery in the future but him moving out of ICU is a great sign. Thank you so very much for your continued support and contributions. He will remain in the hospital for awhile and any little bit helps during this time, again thank you and much love to you all ❤️
Update 1/4/24: I want to thank you all so very much for your words and contributions. On 12/29/24 he had his 4th surgery which went well and they were able to place a 3rd stent in his esophagus so he wont be able to eat/drink for 2 months. On 1/2/24 he had his 5th surgery and that also went well, they were able to place a tube in his nose/esophagus which was sewn in so it does not come out, this is so that his stomach bile does not effect the healing of his esophagus. They also placed a feeding tube in his stomach so that he'll be able to get his nutrition better during this time. On top of all this he still has pneumonia, and MRSA so the tubes in his lung are constantly draining the infection. He still has an infection in his blood while going through all of these surgeries as well. He is still in ICU so we aren't in the clear yet, but he is fighting.
12/27/23: In an unexpected turn of events the love of my life Paul was admitted into the hospital on December 7th not able to breathe, they informed him his lung had collapsed. They did a small surgery where they insert a tube in his lung to help re-inflate the lung. After that he developed a blood infection, and Pneumonia, the bug that caused the pneumonia was MRSA. By day 12 he still wasn't getting better so they were going to do a surgery where they clean the lung but then they decided to do another smaller surgery and placed another tube in his lung in hopes that the infection would drain and go away, that didn't work, he wasn't getting better he was getting worst. So by day 14 they went back to the original plan of surgery. When they opened him up they found he had a hole in his esophagus. So all the food for the past 15 days was on top of his lung causing it to collapse even more. Multiple things could have caused this hole so we aren't exactly sure. He's currently being fed through IV because he cannot swallow anything not even liquid. There's so many things they are doing to try to get him better but he's not quite there yet. Another surgery on his esophagus will happen on Friday in hopes to close the hole so he can eat/drink water again. If that doesn't work, there could be more surgery in the future... I decided to create this gofund me to aid him and his family, also, to help with the bills he is falling behind on while in the hospital, along with these new hospital bills... This holiday season was not good to us, so while he's fighting for his life I'm hoping you can take a moment to help him during this time of need. I dunno what the future holds, it's so heart breaking seeing him like this, some days he seems good, then some days he's really, really bad and I'm extremely scared but I'm just praying and hoping he pulls through. Thank you for your time, much love
