My dad, Paulo, is a 74-year-old retiree who still loved driving for Uber—not just for income, but because he genuinely enjoys being on the road. He’s the kind of guy who makes people laugh without trying, loves old rock music, road trips, history documentaries, and spending time with his family and dogs.
Just 3 months ago, our world was turned upside down when he was diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma caused by a fast-growing tumor wrapped around his aorta. After 3 intense treatments, we were incredibly grateful when he reached remission so quickly.
Unfortunately, the fight didn’t end there.
On November 23rd, my dad was hospitalized with a life-threatening adrenal crisis. Then, 3 days after being discharged, he was rushed back to the hospital—where he has now been for weeks and remains today. He is currently battling adrenal insufficiency, pneumonia, severe weakness, and high oxygen needs while doctors continue running tests and adjusting treatment. He has been hospitalized for nearly a month total, with the possibility of another month ahead.
Doctors are working to transfer him to an LTAC (Long-Term Acute Care) facility, where he can receive more personalized care, intensive therapies, and support from an endocrinologist—care that is not available in his current hospital. We are now waiting on insurance approval. Hoping deeply this goes through. This prolonged hospitalization has taken a huge toll. Once fiercely independent, my dad has become increasingly physically dependent due to extreme weakness, medications, and being confined to a hospital bed for so long. He is unable to work, and everyday expenses, medical costs, meals, medications, and transportation continue to add up.
We are asking for help so finances don’t become another battle he has to fight. Every donation—every share—helps relieve stress and allows my dad to focus on recovering, healing, regaining his strength, and hopefully returning to the independent life he loves.
Thank you for helping my dad and our family during this incredibly difficult time. God Bless You.
