Paulo OConnor was senselessly attacked while traveling in Nice, France, in early March. While touring and out taking photographs, he was beaten, robbed, and left for dead, bleeding from his head, face, and shoulders in a street in Nice until found by passersby.
He has no recollection of the attack, which we can all be thankful for as it was likely violent. He has a broken right clavicle (four breaks), broken right fingers (multiple breaks), stitches in his mouth, cut and swollen lips, contused left eye socket, cuts across the top and back of his head, cuts, bruising and abrasions across face, brow, both shoulders, left hip and spine, bruised and swollen jaws, muscle tear in right calf, and more. He was initially treated in an ER in Nice and is now in Bourgogne being stabilized to travel back to Canada. There is a long road to healthy well-being ahead. He lost most of his belongings, basically everything he was carrying in his traveler’s backpack. They even took his coat. Most consequentially for his work and life were his pro Canon camera and accessories, including big lens.
There will be medical expenses, travel expenses, and replacement costs to be handled as Paulo navigates the aftermath of this near catastrophic event. Please help however you are able to help him manage all that’s ahead.
