This fundraiser is for Paula Lotta. I met Paula in the summer of 2025 when she moved into my neighborhood. She has no family here, has very little property to her name, and is a diabetic. Due to her diabetes, she started having issues with her feet, which continued to get worse. Through the neglect of the doctor she was seeing at the time and the hospital that she had been going to, no assistance was provided, and the toes on her feet continued to turn black.
It was on January 20th that I realized just how bad it had gotten. I finally convinced her to let me call 911 again, but this time, I had them take her to a different hospital. There she finally got the care she needed, and with urgency, they transported her to Novant Presbyterian in Charlotte, NC. On January 22nd, she underwent surgery to remove both of her feet just above the ankle. The damage had spread too far, and her lower extremities could no longer be saved.
Paula is now pain-free, healing, extremely optimistic, moving forward, and trusting that she will be able to walk again with two new prosthetic feet. The doctors are amazed at her resilience and strength at 75 years of age. They are excited for her to continue to live a vibrant life even with two prosthetic feet.
For now, she is still using a wheelchair. A ramp is a necessary tool so that she can come and go from her home and comfort and not feel confined in any way. The property owners have not provided this and so it falls on us to make it happen
This is where you come in. Any money, even $1, can make a huge difference for Paula. She is living on social security and a very tight fixed income. At 75 years of age, she deserves better than what she has been given, and I'm doing my best to make sure the time she has left on this earth provides her everything she needs and deserves. Please donate what you can. Every dime will be used to help get a ramp so she can come and go with ease.
