Help Paul Wheeler Gain Independence with a Wheelchair
Donation protected
I am sure many of you know my dear friend Paul Wheeler. He was born with achondroplasia dwarfism. From what I have learned about Paul, while growing up, he never let his disability stop him from anything, whether it be in sheer strength or wit. He has been through so many surgeries to assist him with being mobile as long as absolutely possible. This is a man that would give the shirt off his back to help a friend. Paul is a very proud man, and it is difficult for him to ask for help. Well he now needs our help. His disease has progressed so much that he has lost much of his independence. This, of course, not only affects him in a physical way but emotionally, to have to be dependent on others for everything is a really difficult realization. Paul has had the opportunity to have a wheelchair built for him to the tune of about $50,000! This will allow him the ability to do lots of things, from getting around the house so that he won't be confined to one room, to simple tasks like getting something to eat for himself, to keep some level of independence. I am asking our community and friends to help in raising enough money to cover his co-pay. Because Paul worked hard and was able to purchase a home for his family, he doesn't qualify for programs such as Medicaid. So Paul has to come up with the $3,600 co-pay. With Paul's permission, I am asking you to help in any way you can. We have about 6 weeks until he will receive his wheelchair and the co-pay is due at that time.
I know that we are all struggling and the holidays are upon us. If you can help in any way, big or small, Paul will be forever grateful.
11/26/24 I am overwhelmed with gratitude to all of you! Your love and show of community support for my dear friend Paul Wheeler is absolutely beautiful! I know how much this means to him. Thank you all so very much!
Paul would like to express his gratitude to you all. He is a bit overwhelmed with how many of you have come together to help him. We have surpassed our original goal for his wheelchair.
I just want you all the know that the additional money raised will be put toward some of the other things that would really benefit him and make his life a bit easier. Paul really needs to update his shower, could use a lift to help him up when he falls (yes this is a regular thing for him), or a hospital bed that lifts as well, just to name a few things.
Again Thank You!
