Help Paul Kelly Walk without Pain

Those of you who know my father, Paul Kelly, know that he has devoted his life to taking care of his family, his karate students, and his faith. He is facing some health issues (knee's that have deteriorated) that make daily activates like walking, excruciatingly painful. While some say surgery is his only option (and may not work), he has found another route, but it is costly and not covered by insurance.

Please consider reading the story below so we can help my dad walk without pain as he continues to teach students, care for my brother who has severe special needs (alongside my mother caring for Liam also), and provide for his family.

Even if you cannot contribute, please pray for him!

Complete story and letter below.

My father is my hero.

I know that sounds cliché, but it is true.

In my life there has been a few things that I could always rely upon. My rocks that ground me when times are tough.

My faith in Jesus Christ, my wife, and my father.

To those that have met my father, they see a kind, thoughtful and intelligent man who is unassuming and instantly trustworthy. My father has that affect. As soon as you meet him you trust him. He has that spirit.

It is what makes him such a great teacher to his hundreds of Tae Kwon Do students and a great father to his six children.

Now to the point of this GoFundMe and why I hope you are led to give to my father's cause.

My father has always been athletic. Stories from his youth always involve him taking on extreme physical challenges such as racing the school bus to his high school and joining a 5k at the last second to win a bet against his math teacher (he won). That athletic prowess aided him in teaching his students the martial arts and enabled him to lead by example with his innate skill.

Beginning in his twenties, my father began to have pain in his knees. Annoying at first, it hardly slowed him down and he continued to live an active life.
Then came the first knee surgery. Then the second. Then the third.

By the time my father was in his thirties, my father's knees were failing him.

With barely enough cartilage to stop his bones from grinding together, my father began to slow down. No more running, no jogging, just walking...carefully.

Playing with us as we grew up was painful, yet he did it anyway. On many occasions I remember asking my father to throw a football with me after school.

He would always make the time.

After catching a pass, I would turn to him and say, "Run Dad!"

I would throw it as hard as I could, and not one to ever back from a challenge, my Dad would limp and grimace as he caught my pass. Time after time.

Since his thirties his knees have deteriorated more and more, to the point where it is hard to watch as his knees buckle and pop every time he gets up from his seat. His easy smile transforms into a grimace as he feels the stabbing pain of bones rubbing each other.

Yet he doesn't complain.

Even when the pain has gotten so bad he has even passed out. He doesn't complain.

What can he do to fix it? Isn't there a cure. You might be thinking that with modern medicine there must be a cure for his condition of sever Osteoarthritis.

Sadly, there is no cure. Just therapies to lessen the pain temporarily.

That was true for over thirty years of my father's life.

Until now.

It a much watched interview on the Joe Rogan Experience, actor Mel Gibson talked about a new Stem Cell therapy that was having near miraculous results in the patients that received treatment. Mel Gibson received the treatment for his shoulder and shortly after it was 100% better. No pain and full mobility. He then talked about his 92 year-old father receiving the same therapy and being able to walk without pain again. Here is the clip for those who haven't seen it.

As soon as I saw this it struck me. This could be the way my father could walk again without debilitating pain. I quickly researched the doctor and the clinic, which is located in Panama due to restrictions on Stem Cells in the U.S. and saw that these results form Mel Gibson and his father were not rare at all. They have treated thousands of patients like my father and have permanently healed their painful joints and maladies.

How does it work? Simply, they inject stem cells into the area of the body that needs to have regeneration and the stem cells change into whatever cell is needed at that particular location. It seems like magic but this has been proven time and again. It works. Here is an article that explains it in more detail.

I was so excited when I told my dad about this revolutionary treatment but noticed something that would become the largest barrier to having my father walk without pain.

It is not covered by medical insurance and is expensive. Very expensive.

In order for my father to have both knees treated it is going to cost $30,000. My father has already applied to the clinic and submitted all of his lab results which were just approved for treatment. The only step now is the payment.

This is where faith comes in. My father did all the tests and the applications knowing full well he does not have the money for the treatments.

He did it anyway.

When I asked him how he was going to pay for it, he said, "The Lord provides when there seems to be no way."

My father's faith is a constant example to me and a reminder that our God provides where there seems to be no possible way. Hearing him say this encourages me to step out in a similar fashion.

I have never done a crowd-funding campaign, but know it is an awesome way for others to help miracles happen.

I appreciate your time for reading until this point and ask that if you felt led and have a little extra to give, that you make a donation to my father's cause.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and your faithfulness.

God bless you all,

Ben

My father with my younger brother Liam. Liam is one of the funniest kids I have ever known. He has Downs Syndrome and is a constant reminder to our family of God's goodness and grace.

My dad with my sister Amber. My father has taught Tae Kwon Do since he was 16 years old and has taught thousands of students over the years. My father is a gifted teacher and is at his best when in front of his students and teaching them to be the best they can be.

My father with his students.
