Paul and I have always tried to handle things on our own, but this past year has changed everything. About a year ago, Paul suffered a devastating fall that left him with a spinal injury. He can no longer walk, and his world has been turned upside down. As if that wasn’t enough, just three months later, Paul lost both his mother and his son within two days of each other. During this time, I lost my job while caring for him through multiple hospitalizations. We’ve used up all of our unemployment benefits and reached out to every local resource we could find, but it’s just not enough. The financial strain is now critical. Insurance won’t cover the home healthcare Paul needs, and Medicaid only pays for a limited number of trips to his doctor. Paul also needs psychological therapy to help him cope with everything he’s been through, and we’re struggling to meet even our most basic needs.
The funds from this campaign will go directly toward making our home safer and more accessible for Paul. We need a stair lift so I can help him shower safely, and a wheelchair accessible van so he can get to his appointments without worrying about Medicaid’s strict limits. We’re also hoping to pay off some personal debt, cover our property taxes and insurance, and meet our monthly needs. Every bit of support will help us keep Paul at home, where he can have the best possible quality of life.
Although we’ve always been independent, this experience has shown us how much we need our community. I want nothing more than to help Paul enjoy life at home, but I can’t do it alone. We would be so grateful for any financial blessing you can offer, and we truly appreciate your prayers and support.
