HELP PAUL SPENCER GET BACK ON HIS FEET
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Erika Klossner and I am fundraising on behalf of my husband, Paul Spencer. Recently, he was sent to the ER for suspected pulmonary embolisms in his lungs. He had a previous embolism in his leg and we assumed he would just be put on blood thinners and sent home. As he was evaluated, the doctors discovered that not only did he have several small blood clots in his lungs but also suffered from a small heart attack.
Therefore, Paul was admitted to the hospital for further testing. His number one worry? Having to let work know that he wouldn’t be available for his shift the next day! After further testing with a heart catheterization, X-rays and an MRI, the hospital discovered that Paul also had blood clots in both legs and would need a triple heart bypass.
I am asking those of you who can help, to donate money to keep us afloat while he recuperates in the hospital and at home, as he won’t be able to work for approximately 8 weeks. As some of you may know, the restaurant industry often offers employees limited benefits as far as sick and vacation time. Thankfully, Paul will be getting partial payments from work through short term disability and we do have insurance. I am self-employed and do not have paid vacation or sick leave. I was hoping to be able to go back to work quickly, however, due to the complication of Paul’s blood clotting issue, he has multiple doctors visits per week and needs help with his physical care as well. So, that leaves me with daily caregiving duties. If you know Paul well enough, he does not call in sick. He just won’t. He is a very hard working and dedicated employee, with a strong work ethic. I am pretty sure he kept going to work while having his heart attack!
We have struggled off and on with financial emergencies over the years we’ve been married, and like most people, we managed to weather the storm. I think most people don’t like to ask for help, but sometimes the storm is too big to handle. Instead of asking for a life preserver, we would rather drown. A friend of mine suggested I set up a GoFundMe account as the reality sank in that we wouldn’t be able to afford to pay the ensuing hospital bill (after insurance) and our personal bills if Paul wasn’t working. I guess you would say my friend threw me a life preserver and I chose to catch it and hold on for dear life! If you or someone you know would like to make a donation to cover Paul’s hospital and personal bills while he recuperates, then you may donate through GoFundMe. We will certainly pay it forward!
