Help Paul Fight Cancer.

Hi, my name is Jane, and I'm fundraising on behalf of Paul and Steven. Paul has unexpectedly found himself in the American hospital system battling Acute Myeloid Leukeamia. This is an urgent request for help.

 

Some of you may or may not have known that Paul hadn't been feeling the best for some time and was battling what he assumed was long covid. Therefore, he hadn't been working for the past 12 months focusing on their new house and planning a well-deserved trip home to Australia.

 

Taking things in his stride and always looking at life positively, Paul focused on his health, swapped the croissants at breakfast for celery juice, and changed his diet. After some time, when this hadn't helped, Paul realised he needed to see a local doctor despite not having medical insurance. Unfortunately when you dont work in the US you're left vulnerable and often uninsured as was the case with Paul at this time.

 

Within a matter of hours of seeing the doctor Paul was admitted to a hospital in New York, and underwent a myriad of tests whilst staying in the hospital. Not only were Paul and Steven about to face some life-changing tragic news regarding Pauls health, but they also had to come to terms with the ever increasing financial strain they were going to face.

 

They received the diagnosis this morning (22/05) that Paul had aggressive Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and was facing a lengthy, intensive chemotherapy treatment process. Being ill and uninsured in America was a double blow no one could dream of.

 

Paul as always, is keeping matter of fact and has requested they stabilise his condition so he can get on the next flight home to Australia and continue life-saving treatment with the help of Medicare, surrounded by family and friends. This flight is currently scheduled for Tuesday 24th of May.

 

Paul and Steven are facing a battle not only for Pauls health but also to ensure they can pay the extortionate hospital bills they have incurred in the short time Paul has spent in the US medical system.

 

They will both face enormous challenges in the coming months - both personally, with the treatment ahead and the massive sudden relocation for them both from the US to Australia. Especially for Steven who will be by Pauls' side the entire time, but also the financial strain this will place on them both, from mounting US medical bills and the cost of re-establishing themselves back in Australia whilst continuing to meet costs from their lives in Kingston NY.

 

This GoFundMe intends to help Paul and Steven get safely to Australia. For Paul to face his treatment head-on without peripheral concerns, and allow Steven to find somewhere to stay and be close to Paul whilst he undergoes treatment. Also to assist in facing their medical expenses and give them some peace of mind knowing their loved ones and community are there to help and support them.
