Our family is reaching out during an incredibly difficult time in our lives. My Uncle Paul has recently become a double amputee, and everything about daily life has changed for him—and for my Aunt Lisa, who has been his primary caregiver through it all. After his first amputation surgery, even the most basic tasks became risky. Transferring him in and out of the house, into vehicles, or to medical appointments has been physically exhausting and genuinely dangerous. My aunt has had to lift and maneuver him without the proper equipment or level of support, constantly worried about him falling or one of them getting injured. Their home is not currently accessible. They urgently need a wheelchair ramp so Paul can safely enter and exit the house, and an accessible vehicle so he can get to appointments, therapy, and regain some independence. Without these, he essentially is trapped in bed for most of the week.
December has been especially hard. While this season is often associated with joy and togetherness, the last few Decembers have been marked by hospital stays and major surgeries for my uncle. Instead of holidays, they’ve faced recovery rooms, setbacks, and difficult news. It’s made this time of year particularly painful and emotionally heavy for them.
This journey has been long and overwhelming. They’ve done everything they can, but they’ve reached a point where they truly need help. This fundraiser is not just about medical equipment or modifications—it’s about safety, dignity, and giving my uncle a chance at a better quality of life while easing the immense burden on my aunt. Any donation, share, or kind word means more than we can express. Thank you for taking the time to read their story and for helping them move forward during one of the hardest periods of their lives.
