Help Paul Langhorn Stand Again with a New Stander Wheelchair

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

This fundraiser is for Paul Langhorn, whose life changed overnight in November 2006 when he was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) — a rare and sudden disorder where the immune system attacks the nerves.

At the time, Paul was a healthy, active twenty-six-year-old. Just weeks after a Carnival Cruise to Ensenada Mexico, what started as flu-like symptoms turned into full paralysis within twenty-four hours.

Paul spent a year in the hospital, including six months on a ventilator. He was left quadriplegic, with limited movement in his head, upper arms, hips, and thumbs. Despite how devastating this was, Paul refused to give up.

Thanks to technology, Paul uses voice recognition software and adaptive tools to access his computer. This allows him to stay connected with friends, watch his favorite movies, and listen to the music he loves.

Just before this past Christmas, Paul completed his Associate of Science degree in Cybersecurity, proving that although his body is limited, his mind is still sharp and determined.

Now, Paul needs help to take the next step in his journey — purchasing a Permobil F5 VS power standing wheelchair. This chair would be life-changing. It would allow Paul to stand again, something that’s not only empowering but also medically critical for improving his bone density, circulation, and overall health.

Being able to stand again isn’t just about health benefits. It would allow Paul to see the world from eye level, give standing hugs, and regain a piece of freedom he’s missed for so long.

After living with this disability for so many years, Paul is also fighting osteoporosis . A standing wheelchair would help fight that, along with improving his quality of life in ways his current aging wheelchair simply can’t.

Medicare and Medi-Cal only cover part of the cost, leaving Paul to raise the rest. This is about more than mobility — it’s about independence, dignity, and protecting his health for years to come.

This fundraiser is asking for support to help Paul get this life-changing equipment. Whether it’s a donation or just sharing this fundraiser with others, every bit of support gets him closer to his goal — and Paul is incredibly grateful for that kindness.

Any help, no matter how small, makes a difference. Thank you for reading Paul’s story and for being part of his journey.

If anyone has questions, please feel free to post them in the Q&A section.
