Help Paul & Keona Fight Brain Cancer
Donation protected
This Go Fund Me is being set up by family for Paul and Keona Kirwan, the newlyweds!
Paul and Keona were married on June 15thand they drove to PEI for a lovely honeymoon. They returned to Bobcaygeon to settle in and plan for their future. Then, on July 29th (Keona’s 19th birthday) their lives were changed forever- by just one small word: tumor.
On the morning of July 29th, Keona drove Paul to the Peterborough ER with an extreme headache and dizziness. After a CAT scan, they were informed that he had a large tumour growing on his cerebellum, and it was a whirlwind from there.
Within a week, they were in Kingston to see a specialist, who told them the tumour would need to be surgically removed and that there was no way to know if it was cancer or not until after the surgery.
On September 3rd, Paul went through a six-hour brain surgery where most of the tumour was removed. Miraculously, there were no complications from the surgery, even though he was at a huge risk for extensive nerve damage. We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Christopher Wallace for his excellent work.
On September 12th, Paul and Keona received a diagnosis that they in no way could have been prepared for: the tumour was cancerous. It was a medulloblastoma, which is incredibly rare in adults.
A week after the diagnosis, they were at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto to see a radiologist, and in less than two weeks Paul will begin his radiation therapy. This will consist of six straight weeks (5 days a week) of intensive therapy, where they will both be staying at the Lodge provided by Princess Margaret.
Paul and Keona know that God is good and that He is in control, and they are grateful for everyone’s prayers.
People have been asking “What can we do? How can we help?” so we are setting up this Go Fund Me so that people can help, in a very tangible way.
Paul has not been able to work and will not be able to return to work for some time (approximately 3 months AFTER treatment is complete). Keona will have to take time off from her job to be with Paul (and we are very grateful for Keona’s co-workers and employers at Castool who have been so understanding and for the caregiver leave that she is able to take).
It will cost Paul and Keona $60 a night (times 31 nights) to stay at the Lodge. They will also have other expenses such as: travel costs (going to and from Bobcaygeon on weekends, TTC for Keona when in the city), food, special supplements, not to mention all of their regular bills (rent, cars, phones etc.) while being off work. If you are able to make a donation to help Paul and Keona with their expenses, we are grateful.
We know that not everyone can make a donation, but everyone can pray and we do covet your prayers at this time. Pray for Paul’s healing, for Keona’s health and strength, for Paul’s parents, siblings, and other family members.
And finally, please share this page on social media – we need our prayer warriors to really step up!
Even when life doesn’t make sense, or turn out the way we thought it would… we know who is in control!
