"Remember, no man is a failure who has friends." A quote from my uncle's favorite movie, It's a Wonderful Life.
Hello everyone, my name is Jennifer and my Uncle, Paul J. McGloin Sr., took a terrible fall on August 2, 2024. He suffered a head injury and laceration along with breaking his neck. He underwent emergency surgery that evening to repair the break and damage to the spinal cord. He has been hospitalized between Geisinger and Allied Services Rehabilitation since then. This has been traumatizing for him, his wife Cathy, and our entire family.
During the several-hour surgery, he had several screws, plates, and rods implanted in his neck and spine as a result of the fall.
My uncle has always been an active member of the Scranton community. He has dedicated his life to serving others and has always been there to help. He has never said "No" when someone in need came to him for help. I feel that now it is our turn to try and help him.
His dedication and leadership have spanned the Lackawanna Little League, West Scranton Boosters, The Children's Advocacy Center, Penn State Football, and his home area of Keyser Valley.
Uncle Paul is self-employed as a florist. He has operated McGloin's Floral in West Scranton for over 45 years. Unfortunately, his business has taken a great hit since his injury. He is not only facing a long physical recovery but also the uncertainty of his ability to return to work in the foreseeable future. His family and friends are by his side providing unwavering support; however, the financial burden of medical bills, rehabilitation, and lost wages will be a tough battle. This is a constant worry for him that he does not need at this time. He needs to focus on recovery and getting back home to his family and friends.
He is currently at Allied Services learning to feed himself, walk, and perform self-care skills all over again. Without being able to operate his business, he has taken a great financial loss. Even after he returns home from Allied, he will continue to need extensive therapy to regain his skills of daily living. His life will forever be changed due to this unfortunate accident.
I am hoping that this GoFundMe will hopefully help alleviate some of the stress that comes with such a life-changing event. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference in Uncle Paul's recovery journey. If you are unable to contribute financially, sharing this campaign with your friends and family would also mean the world to us. Your support, whether through donations or spreading the word, will show Paul that he is not alone in this fight. We know he has many, many friends in this world; we hope that we can spread this word and help him as much as possible. As my uncle always says, he's the richest man in the world because of his family and friends. ❤️
