My name is Paul, and I’m a 64-year-old man from Campbellsburg, Kentucky. In November, I received life-changing news: I need a new heart. After spending six weeks in the hospital, I was referred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee—over three hours from my home. The journey ahead is daunting, as I’ll need to stay in Nashville for six to twelve weeks after my surgery to recover, and I’ve been told I’ll need significant support just to cover the basic costs of living there during that time.
My wife has been my rock through all of this, caring for me every step of the way. She had to stop working to be by my side, and earlier this year, she faced her own health battle, undergoing triple bypass surgery. Thankfully, she had short-term disability coverage, but now she’s also signing up for SSDI. I retired after 39 years of truck driving and am now on a fixed income, making less in a month than I used to in two weeks. My wife drives a school bus for Oldham County Schools, but with her health challenges, she’s had to step back as well. We’re both doing our best to get by, but the financial strain is overwhelming.
The funds raised will go directly toward housing, food, and living expenses in Nashville while I recover, as well as help me keep up with my mortgage and utility bills at home. Your support would mean the world to us, helping me get the new heart I need and giving us hope for the future. Thank you very much for listening, and I hope you can help me achieve a new heart.
