Meet Paul and Becky!
They have served the Orlando community for over 30 years as Paul pastored to the congregation of a large church, First United Methodist Church Downtown Orlando. He retired from his pastorate a number of years ago as the Care Pastor. He visited and prayed for the sick and dying for many years. His great sense of humor and his bigger than life smile lifted the spirits of so many. He lived his life serving the Lord. He would do anything to help anyone even to this day, if he could.
Several years ago, Paul was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia, changing his life forever. Paul and Becky decided that they would stay in their home as long as they could instead of going to a skilled nursing facility. As time and the disease progressed, it was necessary to have home health aides provide some care and help. In late 2018, hospice care was begun. Hospice nurses and doctors, along with he home health aides have been a regular part of their lives for two years now. Paul has exceeded expectations of the hospice team. His sense of humor remains to bring laughter during even the most trying days.
Just prior to the Covid19 lockdown, Paul was scheduled to go to a nursing facility. At the last minute, the availability of the room was denied. We believe this was a blessing as Paul did not have to spend precious days alone in the facility with no one allowed to visit and be with him to provide the love and encouragement that he selflessly gave to those he served for so many years. No one should have to be alone during this difficult time of life and dealing with such a horrible illness.
Even though it has been a blessing to have him at home during these uncertain times of the Coronavirus, it has been a financial strain on them. Becky is no longer able to care for him in ways that she had in the past; however, she has cut services to a bare minimum to ease the financial burden.
Paul and Becky are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary this week on July 24th! Paul has been a wonderful husband, a terrific father to his two sons, and a loving grandfather to his three granddaughters. He has lived his life in service to others. Please help us to support and serve him and his needs at this time in his life.
