Heavy Heart Update:
Paul has been in the ER for the past several days and is sadly losing his battle with cancer. He has been unable to eat for about 8 days now and his tumor has grown substantially. He has been intubated tonight and his body is shutting down. The doctors are saying that there is nothing more that they can do other than give him pain meds. He is barely holding on.
Our family is having a hard time processing this news after holding onto hope of his recovery. Paul's positive attitude and fighting spirit inspired us. Paul has been my sister's whole world for over 30 years and he has been my good friend for even longer. I introduced Paul to my sister when he, Ocean, and I were roommates in Palo Alto, Ca. They have loved each other ever since.
Anna is absolutely devastated. She will focus solely on supporting Paul through this painful process, while trying to breathe. Their business will no longer operate so that Anna can focus on caring for Paul. Anna asks for privacy while Paul's family visits and she grapples with the pain and heartbreak of what life is throwing at them.
Please hold them in your hearts and kindly consider helping them out financially through this painful time. No amount is too small. Reach out to me, Jake, or Emily about ways to donate outside of GFM or for their address.
With love,
Sara Jean
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted ones,
As many of you know, my sister’s husband Paul has been battling Melanoma cancer for the past 3 years and it has taken an emotional, physical, and financial toll on their lives. Their world has been completely turned upside down.
Paul has not been responding well to treatments and the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes and small intestines. He recently underwent surgery to have his tumor removed. Unfortunately, they received the devastating news that the tumor had become too widespread and deeply bound to his intestines to remove.
Anna recently shared this update, “With a massive heavy heart I have to say they opened him up and his tumor is too ingrained in his bowel and his intestines and they’ve had to sew him back up. There’s nothing they can do surgically, so I’m really hoping that we can get on another life-saving immunotherapy treatment. Thank you everyone for your prayers. I felt all the love, thank you all so very much.”
Throughout this immense challenge, Anna has been doing everything imaginable to take care of and support her “Paulie” while at the same time managing their labor intensive dog boarding and cooking businesses, taking care of their farm animals, handling our mother’s healthcare needs, and taking care of everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, and paying bills. Lately, the weight of it all has made it difficult for her to just simply breathe, sleep, or care for herself. Financially, they are running out of resources.
Anna shared, “Paul is not just my husband; he’s my entire world. We are together every single day, working side by side. I can’t even imagine life without my Paulie.”
To support them through this extremely difficult time, we’ve started this GoFundMe to raise funds that will help cover the costs of hospital visits, ongoing medical treatments, travel for specialists, nutritional needs for Paul’s recovery, and other financial strains they are facing during this extremely difficult time. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will be felt helping to ease their struggles and allow them to focus on healing and being there for each other.
Please consider donating if you’re able, and even if you can’t, sharing this page with your network would mean so much to us. We are deeply grateful for any support, whether it's through a donation, kind words, or simply keeping Paul and Anna in your thoughts and sending them healing energy and strength.
Thank you so much for your kindness, love, and support. I believe that together, we can help them navigate this challenging time and have a positive impact on their lives.
With love and gratitude,
Sara Jean,
Jake, and Emily
P.S. If you would like to donate to them directly to avoid the GoFundMe fees taken out, reach out to me, Jake, or Emily about other ways to donate.
