On January 16, 2021, Patricia Wachs (Patty to everyone who knows and loves her) fell and broke her ankle. While being worked up in the hospital for this illness Patty was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cells found in bone marrow.
Patty had just finished a hernia surgery, the ankle surgery and now the cancer diagnosis. One of these can be overwhelming for anyone to handle let alone all piled up together. Along with the broken ankle and inability to walk for 6 weeks, Patty will also be receiving 9 months of chemotherapy treatments with possible other treatment as well.
We are asking for donations to help Patty with this fight. Even in Canada cancer treatment can get very expensive, add the difficulties thrown in with the current pandemic and it is extremely troublesome. Expenses such as costly medications, mobility aids, physical therapy, transportation to treatments, et cetera, add up and add up quickly. We do not want Patty to have to lose her retirement fund fighting to live.
Patty has been a HUGE presence in the St. James-Assiniboia area of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She has worked her entire life for children, whether in childcare, which she did from 1981 to 2012 at Voyageur Elementary School , Crestview Elementary School and Lakewood Elementary School's daycares (a profession that had no pension at the time and only started offering them the year after she retired). There are few kids who grew up in St. James during that time period who don't know the name "Patty" all of whom loved her like another mother/grandmother. She also worked tirelessly on the Board of Child and Family Services in her spare time serving the West and when it was amalgamated; as again, the importance of children and their wellbeing always being a top priority to Patty. Volunteering for Scouts, Brownies, the local community clubs, canvasing for the March of Dimes, teaching STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) classes and recently volunteering at the St. James Senior's Centre pre COVID.
Patty's generous spirit has always had her giving any way she could, asking for nothing but a hug in return. Now its our turn to help Patty, she needs us and as she wouldn't think twice of helping others, I ask you now to help her in return. Please donate if you can and please pass on this Go Fund Me in every way you can, through all forms of social media and onward.
Let's help Patty have the best chance she can possibly have!
We thank you with all our hearts.
