Please help an awesome and amazing South Florida mom with her Emergency medical expenses. One of our SIDEOUT Volleyball Club “family members” collapsed at the Big South tournament on the first day of competition, April 2nd 2021. Our own team parents that were on the sidelines rushed into action, and literally saved her life; giving her CPR right on the volleyball court. Their knowledge, medical expertise, & quick actions revived her Twice at the Georgia World convention center, in Atlanta. After many stressful minutes, she was finally transported by ambulance to the Grady Memorial Hospital Emergency room, where they took fantastic care of her.
Patti was placed in the ICU for Five days, and then she was moved into a regular room for an additional four days. The first 12 hours, she had numerous tests taken, and procedures performed on her. When Patti was conscious and awake enough to comprehend, the doctors and nurses told her that she died twice that day. They couldn’t believe that she was even alive to talk to them. From that moment on, they called her their “miracle blessing”!
As you can imagine, the medical expenses are starting to pile up. On April 8th, she had surgery to implant a defibrillator. In total, she was in the hospital for well over a week, and although she was getting wonderful care, the bills are mounting daily. Ever since the incident, she has Not been able to work, and she doesn’t have any more Paid Time Off either. Until she gets back on her feet, she has no money coming in. Until her specialists clear her, she is not able to return to work.
Patti would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. She is a great “team mom” who brings loads of items with her to each event including food, drinks, snacks, jackets, blankets etc. She gives selflessly to the players and parents!! Patti wheels around so many items during these tournaments that Her nickname is “Patti Wagon” !!
She is such a fantastic single mother, with two high school children who are very active student athletes. She loves her children, and would do absolutely anything for Lucas, a Senior (18), and Marissa, a Freshman, (15). Patti is one of the strongest people that I know; and the one who cheers the loudest not only for her children, but for everyone else’s children too. She is selfless, quick witted, and even after this has happened to her, she still has the greatest sense of humor. She lives in Jupiter, Florida, and her children attend Dwyer High School.
With all of the Covid restrictions, no one was allowed to stay with her in Atlanta. She was all alone for more than a week, and missed her family dearly. Not only did she have surgery on April 8, but She could Not celebrate with Lucas. He turned 18, and she missed his milestone birthday!! He plays lacrosse and Patti is extremely dedicated to both of her children in their academic & athletic endeavors.
I am a volleyball coach, and I have known her daughter, Marissa, for five years. Ever since she was ten, I could see that she was a special child with a lot of potential. As a coach, I have always respected her. But, after this incident happened, I have a new appreciation for her true grit and mental toughness! She watched her mom being given CPR, get wheeled off on a stretcher, and she still played with such maturity in the very next match just a few minutes later. She is wise beyond her years, she kept her composure and continued to play the rest of the tournament knowing her mom was not on the sidelines, but laying in the Intensive Care Unit. At that time, they did Not know what was the cause of her moms collapse. Marissa’s mental toughness is unmatched!! The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Patti is just as tough and now that she is finally back home, we are ALL rooting for her to recover from her injuries, and get well as quickly as possible.
Our faith in humanity was restored at that tournament in Atlanta. People that we did Not even know, from all over the country, came into action and helped out. Thank you to the “Off duty” Doctors, Nurses, and EMT’s that were casually watching their own children play, who rushed over to our court to help. Other parents and Players, came over to pray with us and support our players, parents and coaches. Those actions are very much appreciated, and did not go unnoticed. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. With all of that being said. Patti and her family desperately need your help with the medical expenses. Please consider donating to her cause. Any amount that you could give would help tremendously! We Thank you in advance for your generous support !!
