Help Patti Humphreys And Her Family Fight Leukemia
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tatiana, and I am reaching out on behalf of the amazing Patti and her family, who are facing an incredibly difficult battle.
Over the past year, she has endured so much, and now she is facing serious health challenges of her own. Since October, her blood tests have been abnormal, and since December, her health has been declining rapidly. Patti has always been full of energy and strength, now struggles to walk across a room without feeling winded. She is constantly exhausted, and it has been heartbreaking to watch.
A few days ago, she met with a hematologist, who told her he is 95% sure she has acute leukemia. This is absolutely not the diagnosis we were hoping for. She had a bone marrow biopsy scheduled to confirm the diagnosis and determine the next steps for treatment.
How You Can Help
As we wait for more answers, we know the road ahead will be long and challenging. Between hospital stays, treatments, travel, and other expenses, the financial burden is significant. If you are able, please consider donating to help cover:
Medical expenses
Travel and accommodations for family members supporting her
Treatment costs not covered by insurance
Any additional needs that arise during her fight against leukemia
Updates on Patti
March 15: Patti developed a fever and had to go to the hospital. She spent the night in an ER holding area, barely sleeping, and was completely exhausted. Doctors ran blood tests and found that her blast cells (which indicate leukemia) had increased from 25% to 40% in just a few days. Because of this rapid progression, they considered her case critical and arranged for her to be transferred to Vancouver as soon as possible. They also planned to do a blood transfusion due to dangerously low platelet and red blood cell levels. The initial plan in Vancouver is an intensive month of chemotherapy, followed by a possible stem cell transplant.
March 16: Alina spent the day with Patti at the leukemia ward at Vancouver General Hospital. She is in the right place with amazing medical staff taking care of her, but it is heartbreaking to see her this way. The leukemia has severely impacted her body—her oxygen levels are low, and she is so weak that even small tasks like drinking water or fixing her blankets are difficult. She said she has never felt this level of exhaustion in her life.
She will have a bone marrow biopsy tomorrow to guide treatment.
She has been receiving blood and platelet transfusions, but her levels remain critically low.
She has had a mild fever the entire time, and doctors are trying to determine if she has an infection or if her body is just working overtime.
Please continue praying—not just for her physical health but also for her mental health. She is still grieving my dad’s recent passing, and this is all just too much for one person to bear.
March 17: Doctors are now treating her for pneumonia, which may explain her fever, cough, and some of her exhaustion.
She had a bone marrow biopsy today, and the results will determine the exact treatment plan.
The plan is to start treatment on Wednesday or Thursday.
Prayer requests:
That her cough eases so she can get better rest.
That antibiotics work quickly to fight the pneumonia.
That her Hickman line placement tomorrow morning goes smoothly.
That the biopsy results are clear so doctors can create the most effective treatment plan.
That she gains some energy and strength—she needs all the encouragement she can get.
She knows how many people are praying for her and sending love, and it means everything to her!
March 18:
9:21 am – Please pray that my mom’s oxygen and fluid levels stabilize so they can proceed with placing her Hickman line. Right now, she’s not stable enough.
9:48 am – She’s looking more stable since I arrived this morning. Her oxygen levels are better, her cough has improved, and she slept better last night! Thank you all for your prayers!
Update on Patti from Alina 3/18, 8:30 pm
Mom is doing a lot better than when I got here this morning. She was having trouble on and off all day keeping her oxygen levels stable. Neither her or I enjoyed hearing "Your mom isn't stable right now" when I first arrived. However, they now have her on a higher flow oxygen machine that seems to be working well for her. They were able to get her Hickman line put in and they have started the chemo. The preliminary results from the bone marrow biopsy came back as acute myeloid leukemia. For the chemo she's going to be on a continual drip for the next seven days. We so so appreciate all the prayers. Things around here seem to be ever changing and it gets a little overwhelming!
Her cough definitely improved since yesterday and she slept so much better last night, so yay! She had a good dinner and is honestly feeling quite a bit better this evening.
Prayers for tonight:
That the chemo is effective at what it needs to do!
That the anti nausea meds are effective at keeping any nausea from the chemo at bay.
That her oxygen levels and breathing stay stable and she can rest well again tonight.
Any amount, big or small, will mean the world to us. We are so grateful for every prayer, message, and donation. Thank you for standing with us in this fight.
With love and gratitude,
Tatiana
