I'm Patti Derr and am a retired special needs children's advocate. I have worked on legislation, teaching strategies, and also participated in developing sound policies for children with behavioral health needs. After retiring, I took a part-time job at a local grocery and continue assisting families and children. I was placing a trash bag in the can when the dolly wheel flipped and I landed on my forehead. I experienced a severe concussion and a torn tendon in my shoulder.

I have been off work for 11 months. I've been stretching to support myself and my adult daughter with disabilities, and unbeknownst to us, the foundation under our home is crumbling. The mortgage company has given me 3 weeks to repair or lose our home. I am frantic for my daughter and myself, especially since we have been barely surviving since September.

I have never asked for help; I am a helper. But we desperately need help saving our home. According to our mortgage company, we need $23,000 by August 20.
