This is a GoFundMe for Patt Riese, a queer elder who had hip surgery earlier this year. We are hoping to be able to raise the money she’s losing while she’s off work healing, after having a hip replaced. Money that she needs to pay the mortgage of her house, and also bills, food, and costs of living. Patt lives with chronic pain and arthritis that limits her mobility. She is 61 years old and has been a feminist and queer activist since her youth in the 70s. She worked for 5 years as a volunteer for Community United Against Violence, and for years as an activist in Act-Up and Queer Nation. She was instrumental in organizing around AB101 (protesting the veto of an anti-discrimination bill) in 1991, and arrested the year after for disrupting a Jerry Falwell appearance at the 1992 Republican National Convention in Houston, Texas, and again in Hollywood protesting homophobia with Queer Nation. Over and over she has put her safety on the line for her community and made great sacrifices for queer liberation. Patt has community all over the West Coast, but she lives in Tucson, Arizona in a small house that is all that she owns. We are worried that she might lose it if we don’t manage to raise enough money. Patt did not ask us to do this, and in fact, she rarely asks for anything for herself. If you have any means to give a few dollars to this GoFundMe, it could mean that Patt can keep her home, and hopefully get to enjoy life with less pain.
