My Mom, Patsy, has been diagnosed with Stage IV Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the Bartholin Gland with Metastasis to both lungs. This cancer affects only 0.01% of the population to present. We are devastated to learn that due to the EXTREME RARITY of this type of cancer, there is no cure and no known treatment. It is a medical fact, which we have been told by all doctors involved, that ACC DOES NOT respond well to chemotherapy. We have met with six doctors for second and even third opinions. No doctor has experienced a case just like this. Due to the lack of diagnosed cases, there is NO funding and next to NO research for ACC of the Bartholin Gland. Her doctors are currently working with MD Anderson, a #1 Cancer Research Center, in Houston, Texas, to offer her an individually tailored treatment plan to try to treat her strain of cancer, as it is slow growing, but known to be recurring. The end result suggested, is chemotharapy to stop any further matastasis. Knowing that ACC does not respond well to chemotharapy drugs, we are skeptical that this is the only option, but of course do not want the cancer to further spread in her body. She is still seeking answers and we are not giving up hope that somewhere there is a doctor/facility who has treated an ACC patient with a case like hers and that she can get further information. She will be traveling to out of state facilities seeking options/treatments as well as medical advice which specializes in rare cancer diagnosis/treatment, but these treatments WILL NOT be covered by insurance, due to being out of state. Insurance will not cover any out of state medical, unless she has an emergency. Due to the lack of diagnoses and research, most immune therapy drugs WILL NOT be covered either (in or out of state) as they are NOT FDA approved, but could be her only best hope!! The immunotherapy drugs are thousands($12k-$50k+)of dollars for just a single infusion. My Mom is also her husbands care taker as he was diagnosed with dementia and no longer works. She has cut way back on her career as well, due to these health factors. Any one who knows my Mom, knows she is a private person and she would never ask for help, so I'm doing it for her. I want to help relieve some of the stress of finances and medical bills, along with any needed funds for unexpected healthcare cost not covered by insurance. Please, if you can offer even just a small amount, EVERY penny is appreciated!!! ALL funds received will go to Patsy's medical care and personal needs related to finding proper care and treatment. Thank you to each and every one of you for taking the time to hear Patsy's story! If you are unable to offer a donation, please leave her a hopeful message for positive vibes and keep her in your prayers!! Thank you!!! God Bless you!!!
