Financial recovery after multiple suicide attempts

Only four months after my release from the hospital, debt collection agencies are beginning to harass me via phone and mail about the unpaid medical bills. "Greatest" healthcare system in the world, hah... this is beginning to feel insurmountable. Hello, my name is Patrick Bass and I'm humbly asking for your support after a very trying year.

After losing my job in during the summer of 2020 due to the pandemic's effect on the food/service industry, I searched for other opportunities for several months, eventually taking a chance to start over in another city. Unfortunately, I suffered a mental health crisis within 48 hours after arriving and was involuntarily hospitalized; this incident cost me both the job and housing I had moved across the country for, and was forced to return to upstate NY where I grew up.

After a few months, I experienced a second mental health crisis and was again hospitalized, this time for one week. I am now faced with a large amount of medical debt from these incidents: ambulance transport, emergency room admittance, renal ultrasound, accommodation, medication, and therapy.  As an added difficulty, the insurance I was able to obtain was not eligible to go into effect until a short while after the second hospital stay and I've been informed that none of these costs can be covered aside from my new prescription refills.

It has been a struggle adjusting to life within these circumstances, and although I do have a solid emotional support system from my family and close friends, we don't have the kind of money it will take to pay off these bills and it can certainly feel like I'm a burden on two retired parents with already limited income. I have also had to drop out of the courses I had been studying in for a potential career change due to these financial stresses, which has been very disheartening and making me feel totally defeated.

Being able to settle this medical debt would be a significant step in returning a small amount of normalcy to my life. Any help is absolutely appreciated, and even if you don't feel able to contribute, please share and spread this around!
