After a year of agonizing pain, constant hospital visits, emergency room visits, surgeries, and countless tests, Patrick was diagnosed by his oncologist at UC Davis in Sacramento with a very rare type of Nodular lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin Lymphoma in his intra-abdominal lymph nodes (HCC), which is incurable. The pain in his eyes was haunting, and as his mother, it’s devastating to witness. Patrick is struggling with deep depression and anxiety on top of the physical pain. The disease is relentless, and managing his pain has been difficult. He recently started chemotherapy and had another surgery to place a port in his chest. The treatment plan is uncertain, continuing as long as it works or until side effects become unmanageable. He hardly gets out of bed except to struggle to the restroom when getting sick. Most of the time he lays there in agonizing pain, just rolling around. The only time he can even try is when he has pain medication, which he dislikes taking, but it’s the only way he can handle life.
The funds will help Patrick get to the hospital for treatment, which is over an hour away, pay for medicine not covered by insurance, medical equipment, cell phone bills, clothes, special protein drinks, vitamins, audiobooks to keep his mind occupied during chemo, a computer and accessories for research, games, and any medical items needed. I am needed here to care for him full time. I am doing my best to cover expenses, but it’s heartbreaking to have to tell him no. I am on social security and also raising a little boy with brain cancer who is deaf/hard of hearing from treatment. The illness is hard enough, but seeing my 39-year-old son so sick and struggling to survive is overwhelming. Having to tell him I can’t pick up medicine because it’s too expensive is breaking me. He needs help, and I don’t want him to give up.
Any support you can offer would mean the world to Patrick and our family. Your kindness can help him access the care and comfort he needs, and give him hope to keep fighting. Thank you for reading our story and considering a donation.
