Hi! My name is Patrick DiCero. I am autistic, gay, and a survivor of sexual assault who lives in Seattle. I am a film director and screenwriter who has two short films under his belt and a whole variety of credits on films produced in the Seattle region. However, this post isn't about my art, but how everything may be thrown into jeopardy.
On August 17th, 2024, outside of CC Attle's and between the hours of 9:15 and 9:30 PM, I was assaulted by an intimate partner of mine. What made this assault particularly devastating was the betrayal I suffered at the hands of the people who stood by, watched, and kept silent. Over the course of a year, my entire support network evaporated as people turned their backs on me or continued to expect having sexual access to me after it occurred. The assault forced me back to therapy, and I was talked into trying for a DVPO. My abuser came to court, and the commissioner denied my petition for a "lack of evidence." Seeing everything as utterly hopeless, I attempted to overdose on Benadryl but was successfully taken to the hospital and placed under supervision for a night.
Today, I received a bill in the mail for the ambulance ride - about $3560. My insurance, Cigna, covered only $700 for the ride and kicked the rest of the costs to me. Because I am a recent college graduate, I am struggling to pay for this due to my student debt. Therefore, I am humbly asking for help to cover the remaining ambulance bill.
