I am a 73-year-old recent widow, and my life changed forever in November 2025 when my husband, who was a hospice chaplain, was tragically killed in a car accident. For the past 40 years, I have worked as a registered nurse, with the last 15 years dedicated to hospice care. In 2021, I was diagnosed with cancer in my left eye and underwent radiation treatment. Since then, I have required injections in my eyes every five weeks to prevent blindness, but my insurance does not cover the cost of my medicine. An organization that previously helped with these expenses lost its funding, and I am now at risk of losing my vision in my right eye as well.
My health challenges have continued. I have lived with autoimmune diseases for 20 years, requiring infusions every two weeks, and have endured many surgeries to keep working as a nurse despite my disabilities. In July 2024, I was diagnosed with cancer in my left breast and had a lumpectomy. I was told they got it all, but in July 2025, a follow-up mammogram revealed cancer in both breasts, leading to radical surgery. While waiting to begin radiation, my husband was killed, and I had to go through treatment alone. I am now on lifelong medication and face further surgery in July.
With the loss of my husband, my household income has been reduced to just my social security. I am struggling to cover the cost of my medical care and to maintain my home. I am already in debt from medical bills and ongoing treatments. I have always been the one to help others, but now I find myself needing help. I trust that God will provide, and I would be deeply grateful for any assistance you can offer. Thank you for your kindness and support.
