Help Patricia Sanchez & her family during cancer

Patricia Sanchez, community organizer, mother, and friend was just recently diagnosed with cancer in her liver, lungs, and bones. Throughout her life, Patricia has fought and organized to help others in Los Angeles and in her home state of Oaxaca. We are coming together to give her the support she needs during this challenging time.

A Patricia Sánchez, organizadora comunitaria, madre y amiga, le acaban de diagnosticar con cáncer en el hígado, los pulmones y los huesos. A lo largo de su vida, Patricia ha luchado y se ha organizado para ayudar a los demás en Los Angeles y en su estado natal, Oaxaca. Nos estamos uniendo para darle el apoyo que necesita durante este tiempo difícil.

Patricia is an amazing mother to two children who still need her support. Her son Isaac is autistic and has several medical conditions that require constant monitoring and a daily medicine regiment. Her daughter Ruby is in her sophomore year at UCLA and commutes from their family home in Venice.

Patricia has been part of the Venice community for over 20 years, taking care of her family and her neighbors. Most recently, the community gathered behind her as she fought an Ellis home eviction from the owners of the Wurstkuche restaurants in Venice and Downtown Los Angeles. Patricia was also an active leader with several local and city-wide organizations including DCFS Give Us Back Our Children, the Los Angeles Tenants Union, and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Alliance. Her activism dates back to living in Juchitan, Oaxaca where she was part of community efforts to bring justice to local communities.

Patricia is still hospitalized at UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica and as she begins treatment for cancer, her home is without its central core and heart. On top of the difficulties of cancer, they have lost income they will not soon be able to replace. Patricia is determined to make sure her family has what they need to survive. She has already mobilized friends and neighbors to help, but the journey is going to be long and hard.

All funds will be used to pay for cost of living expenses for her and her children including rent and utilities, medication, transportation, food and other needs related to her and Isaac’s care. Paty’s will to live is strong and she is putting together a treatment plan with her doctor. Her goal is to ensure that both her son and daughter are able to live on their own.

We will continue to fundraise and give updates on how she and her family are doing over the next year.

Patricia es una madre increíble con dos hijos que siguen necesitando su apoyo.
