On December 17, 2025, my sister Patricia B Alston and her family experienced a devastating house fire. The fire destroyed their garage, damaged the foundational structure and wiring of their home, and forced them to be displaced for at least six months while everything is reconstructed. The smoke damage was so severe that every item in the house, even those with deep sentimental value, must be replaced. The emotional toll of losing a home and cherished belongings is hard to put into words, and Patricia’s family is now facing the reality of starting over from scratch.

While Patricia does have insurance, it doesn’t cover everything. As an entrepreneur, missing work means she doesn’t receive compensation, and the immediate needs—clothes, food, toiletries, gas, and other daily expenses—continue to reveal themselves each day. The financial strain is overwhelming, and there are many costs that insurance simply won’t touch. Patricia is doing her best to keep moving forward, but the challenges are immense and ongoing.

This has been a humbling experience for Patricia, who is usually private and fiercely independent. I am asking for help on her behalf because, even in the midst of turmoil, she is still figuring things out and making things happen. Patricia is known for helping others in times of crisis, and now she finds herself in need of the same support she so freely gives.
