Help Patricia and Koga move
Donation protected
Hey, I’m Patricia Hernandez — you might know my work from The Verge, or Kotaku. I write a lot about YouTube, the internet, Pokemon, and Fallout.
So ... my building became condemned a couple of days ago after a big fire broke out on the first floor. My studio didn’t catch fire, but the whole complex has shut down due to extensive smoke / chemical / building damage resulting from the fire, and the firefighters breaking various parts of the structure to contain the mess. I luckily got out in time thanks to some firefighters who woke me up, but I’m going to have to move ASAP.
Now, I’m lucky that I have some savings, but this whole thing is essentially going to wipe me out. I moved to this studio about five months ago after a big break up where I had to rebuy a lot of stuff that makes up a home — furniture, pots and pans, that sort of thing. And of course, moving the stuff I did have cost money. And now I’m going to have to do it again! I definitely didn’t budget for two huge expenses like this in a year, plus I’ve had various medical expenses that happened this year. It’s been a whole lot. It’s also the holidays. I’m probably not seeing family this year, and am not taking a vacation. There’s also, I’m afraid, a chance that I’m going to have to fight my landlord to get my deposit / rent for December back, because they’ve been a little MIA since this whole thing has gone down.
Still, I count myself lucky. I got out of the building. My cat Koga, who was trapped in the building for hours inhaling smoke, also made it out alive. That’s what is important. But, if you feel inclined to help, I’d be very grateful.
If you donate to this GoFundMe, it’s all going toward moving my stuff / renting a new place / replacing stuff this month, getting Koga checked out, that sort of thing. If I get any extra, it will probably go toward getting Koga microchipped (I found her on the street a year ago and somehow never got around to it!) plus holiday-related expenses, but I'm not counting on that. I’ll make sure to shower you all with many good Koga pictures too, she’s very happy to be alive and photogenic to boot.
Thanks for reading!
