Help Me Rebuild My Life After Amputation and Medical Crisis

Hello everyone, and thank you for taking a moment to read my story.

My name is Patrice, and this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. I’ve always been independent, hardworking, and determined. I earned my degrees, built a career in behavioral health, and spent 15 years helping children, adults, and families through some of the toughest moments of their lives. I never imagined that one day I would need help just to make it through my own.

Last year, I became severely sick, and my health declined faster than I could keep up with. After months of complications, infections, and hospital stays, I ended up needing a leg amputation. My life changed instantly. The recovery has been long, painful, and physically and emotionally draining.

Because of my illness and surgery, I lost everything:

• My job

• My home

• My car

• My financial stability

Becoming disabled overnight left me without the ability to work. I am currently waiting on SSDI, but as many know, the process can take months to over a year, and during this time, I am not allowed to work at all — even if I wanted to. I’ve tried to access local emergency housing and shelters, but there are none available for my situation, and I am now struggling to find safe, stable housing while continuing to heal.

I am doing everything I can to stay strong and positive, but this has been the most difficult chapter of my life. I want my life back. I want stability. I want to heal safely. And, when I’m able, I want to return to the workforce and rebuild everything I worked so hard for.

What I Need Help With

I am raising funds to cover the basic essentials that will allow me to rebuild my foundation:

• Safe and stable housing

• Temporary lodging until permanent housing is secured

• Transportation costs

• Medical-related expenses not covered

• Basic living needs during my recovery

Why This Means So Much

I never asked for this situation, and I never expected to be here. I’ve spent years helping others, and now I’m praying for help in return. I’m not giving up — I still have dreams, goals, and a purpose. This amputation paused my life, but it didn’t end it. I just need a little support to get through this season and stand strong again.
