On Monday, February 3rd, 2025, Pat (aka Herb) Sand was rushed to the hospital in Sioux City, IA with chest pain. Due to multiple previous heart attacks, we were under the assumption this was another one. We later learned that he was in AFib. While at the hospital, his organs started to shut down because his heart function was minimal. His family was called to come say what we thought would be our goodbyes on Friday, February 7th. Miraculously, the hospital was able to get him somewhat stabilized and we got the call Saturday, February 8th that Mayo Clinic in Rochester had accepted our request to have him Medevac’d to their hospital. After a week at Mayo, they had him stabilized and on a care plan with the right medications to send him home. On Saturday, February 15th he was released from the hospital and spent a week with his children in Wisconsin so that they could keep an eye on him before he went home.

Pat will be unable to work for the foreseeable future because he cannot do anything that could potentially put any extra unnecessary stress on his heart. He is trying to sell any assets to lower monthly costs and help with bills that have piled up while in the hospital but unfortunately getting things in order takes time and funds are low.

Pat is a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, cousin, and friend. We are all so thankful for this second chance after what we thought would be our final moments with him. Any help to ease his worries during this time would be appreciated, whether that be financial, words of encouragement, thoughts, and/or prayers.
