Help Pat: No Income, Battling MS

Please help my dad. Today, my mom posted this on Facebook and it broke my heart... "Closed mouths don’t get fed" is a call to action. It urges us to be active participants in our own lives, to advocate for ourselves, and to recognize that our voices are powerful tools for achieving our goals. It serves as a reminder that silence, while sometimes comfortable, can lead to missed opportunities, whereas speaking out can open doors to a world of possibilities.
So, here I am stepping out of my comfort zone… Pat was an independent contractor (no work/no pay). He has not worked since 7/28/2024. He had an unexplained illness and was in and out of the hospitals from July to November 2024. We now know he has Multiple Sclerosis (which appeared in 2016, but was not detected). He has little to no mobility in his legs and requires transport via a wheelchair. I help him in and out of our home with God’s grace .
There was no disability income available. We have applied for disability benefits and are working on an appeal now. But, honestly, it has been on me. I am his primary caregiver. I am blessed to have the opportunity to work from home full-time, so that is what I do.
On paper, I am over the income limit for state assistance. I have exhausted any savings I had. I use FMLA to get him to his multiple specialist appointments. So, here I am opening my mouth; I do need help!!!
I know times are hard for us all. If you know me, you know I have my own health challenges… BUT GOD!!!
We need help! We're not getting any assistance from the government or state and resources are getting low.
