Help Support My Father’s Fight for Recovery After a Traumatic Brain and Spine Injury
Our father—our protector, our heart, our everything—has just endured the unimaginable. What began as a normal day turned in an instant into a nightmare that no family is ever prepared for.
He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) following a devastating fall. The impact caused significant damage to the right side of his brain, requiring an emergency craniectomy—a critical surgery to remove a portion of his skull to relieve the pressure from swelling, stop brain bleeding, and save his life. The trauma didn’t stop there. He also sustained fractures to his cervical spine (C1–C4) and underwent a complex spinal fusion surgery involving rods and screws to stabilize his neck and prevent further neurological damage. He also sustained multiple skull base, occipital, and facial fractures that still likely need to be addressed surgically, as well as replacement of the large portion of his skull removed during the craniectomy, in addition to a fractured clavicle.
Since Thursday April 17th, he has remained in the Neurosurgical ICU, sedated and on a ventilator, while doctors monitored his brain swelling, spinal integrity, and overall neurological response. Slowly—miraculously—he began to respond. He’s now initiating his own breaths, moving all four limbs, intermittently responding to some verbal commands, and even crossing his legs and moving with some purpose. The signs of awareness are there. But his road ahead is long and uncertain.
We’re now moving toward entering the most difficult phase: rehabilitation and recovery. He will likely need:
• 24/7 skilled nursing care
• Inpatient neurorehabilitation
• Physical, occupational, and speech therapy
• Neurological monitoring and follow-ups
• Specialized equipment for mobility and safety
• Home modifications to accommodate his condition once discharged
• Ongoing transportation to medical facilities, possible in-home caregivers, and potential vision care for exposure-related eye complications or other eye related care.
While we remain extremely hopeful and anchored in faith, the financial reality is overwhelming. These procedures and long-term care needs come with staggering costs that insurance will not fully cover, and it’s imperative for him to receive the most targeted high level neurorehabilitation and care. Our family is doing everything we can—but we can’t do it alone.
We are humbly asking for your support to help ease the immense burden of medical bills, rehab costs, and all the unexpected expenses that have followed this unimaginable tragedy. Whether it’s $5 or $500, every contribution helps. Please help him and our family in any way that you can. And if you’re unable to donate, we ask that you please share this page and keep our father in your prayers or pleadings to the Universe.
He’s a fighter—and we are standing by him every step of the way. But we need your help to keep going.
Thank you for your love, your support, your positive vibes, your prayers, and your belief in our dad’s recovery.
With love and gratitude,
Tricia Musto (Pat’s Daughter) and the entire family of Pat Musto
