Hi, my name is Myra and I'm fundraising for Kim's mom, Pat. Kim is a co-worker of mine. Kim's mom, Pat, age 74, had a sudden onset of significant health and cognitive decline in June of 2022. Pat went from being completely independent, social, and active within her church to being completely dependent upon her daughter, Kim for all her daily living needs.

Kim has spent the past year caregiving for her mom, Pat, and taking Pat to numerous medical appointments to figure out what is causing Pat's health condition in order to improve her health and quality of life.

Pat has been seen by numerous conventional doctors and most recently has been going to the Mayo Clinic. The Mayo diagnosed Pat with Hashimoto's encephalopathy, which is inflammation of the brain caused by an autoimmune disorder. Pat was receiving high doses of IV steroid treatments at the Mayo to treat the encephalopathy. This month, after her third dose of steroids Pat has been vomiting and developed gastritis which is inflammation of the stomach. Sadly, The treatments did not improve Pat's condition and made it worse. Pat's current condition is serious and acute. She has been in urgent care twice and stayed at the hospital for 3 nights within the past week. Doctors have said the gastritis is from the IV steroids and Mayo has stopped those treatments. Kim has exhausted all possibilities for help for her mom through conventional medicine.

Kim spoke to a functional medicine doctor who specializes in autoimmune disorders. The doctor works with a team of other functional medicine doctors that use a collaborative team approach for their patients. They have seen many people with serious, complex health issues such as Pat's, and have been able to help their patients to regain health and quality of life and the doctors believe they can help Pat.

Functional medicine doctors run different in-depth labs, testing, etc. that are more thorough than conventional medicine, in order to figure out what is the root cause of diseases. Then they use that knowledge to appropriately treat the root cause such as IV treatments, diet, supplements, etc. All of these aid the body to heal without negative side effects. Functional medicine is not covered by insurance. At this point, functional medicine is the only option available to treat Pat's condition.

The estimated cost for functional medicine to treat Pat's condition is $9,000. Pat's condition is very serious and acute and if not treated very soon, could result in death. Kim is listed as the beneficiary on Go Fund Me because Kim is the one managing Pat's care and finances since Pat is not able to do so herself.

Kim needs to raise finances within the next week to be able to start getting Pat the help and treatments she desperately needs through functional medicine. Pat's prognosis is hopeful if treated in a timely manner.
