Help Pat Busby Rebuild After Devastating Fire

We are fundraising for Pat Busby after a devastating fire destroyed her home in St. Petersburg, FL on September 10, 2021. (See more photos below. )

 

Pat has lived in her beloved home for over 18 years. She is a single 74 year old and lived in her home with her two recently adopted kittens. Pat is currently displaced and not able to stay in her home due to the extreme damage caused by the fire. She is an upstanding member of the community who continues to work full-time to support herself. She is the mother of three children and has two grandchildren.

 

Shorty after returning home from work on September 10, she noticed smoke and flames coming from vents in the ceiling of her home. She immediately evacuated the residence and called 911. St. Petersburg Fire Rescue arrived on scene and performed fire suppression operations, and were able to stop the fire before the home was fully engulfed. The cause of the fire was believed to be electrical wiring in the attic. Thank you to the fire department for their quick response and action.

Despite the fire departments efforts, the home suffered extensive fire and water damage. Pat's home was paid off and unfortunately she no longer has homeowners insurance. Florida homeowners insurance is extremely expensive. Like many others, this extra expense is not affordable, especially for a single person.

 

Pat has a long road ahead of her to rebuild her home and get back to some sort of normalcy. This was greatly unexpected and heartbreaking. There will be enormous costs to get the home cleaned and ready for contractors, repair or replacement of many of Pat’s belongings, and the cost of building materials once the contractors are able to start the repairs. We've been told by several experts at this point that the cost will be over $150,000.
