I'm Pat Bennett and I've been running Luratics Canine All Breed Lure Coursing club since I started it in 2005. For the past 20 years through ups and downs and everything in between I've run literally thousands of dogs - all shapes, sizes, colors, breeds - you name it, I've run it! Luratics was the first all-breed coursing club in the country and is still the only one in Southern California and beyond. We ran at Wags-for-Wishes with the Make-A-Wish Foundation four years in a row and generated thousands of dollars in donations for them. Everyone has so much fun watching the dogs run after the pretend bunny!
I've had quite a few physical challenges over the years (10 surgeries in the last 6 years alone) that now keep me from lifting anything really heavy by myself and I'm now 20 years older, but I'm still out there every month running the dogs. I've managed to automate pretty much everything including building an RC cart to carry the heavy stuff, and a motor-driven string winder to pull the line in at the end of the events. However we need power to run the machine, and a few batteries just don't cut it, which means I can't run more than about 6 dogs without a generator to power the charger at the field. I'm no longer working and my Social Security check doesn't give me any extra to buy things like a generator so I'm asking you, all my dog people, to help by donating what you can.
Luratics brings so much joy to people and their dogs that I've been unable to let it go. I enjoy seeing everyone step away from the insanity of the world and just enjoy a day with their dogs and with other people who love their dogs. In order to keep Luratics running and bringing this joy to as many people who want to come out and run their dogs, I need a generator.
We also need a better first aid kit for the field. A good sized one where I can put vet wrap, saline syringes, Medimitt paw bandages, quickstop, antibiotic ointment, benedryl for bee stings, etc. The K9 Medic Kit Working Dog Edition, runs $135 and is perfect for use at events. Things do happen at the field, including bee stings, torn pads, torn nails, scrapes, etc. I'd rather have the necessary supplies on hand to take care of these things right away rather than be unable to help, so this is a critical need for us.
I've looked into the cost of a generator and I've found a great used one that's got almost no hours on it and is nearly new. It's a 4850watt inverter with electric start and a wheel kit. The cost is only $250 so if you folks can each contribute $10 or $15, we'll have it in no time.
If you all can help out with getting us a generator and a first aid kit for the field, that would be spectacular and would keep us running those dogs and bringing joy and happiness to all the people. Can you please help out?
