We are Ryan and Alyona Watkins, raising funds for our dear Christian friends in Nigeria, where Christian persecution, banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping are often reported and documented with alarming evidence. In the recent years, Nigeria has become the epicenter of Christian martyrdom in the world. In the initial 96 days of 2026, from January 1 to April 6, around 1,402 Christians have lost their lives in Nigeria (14-15 killed daily on average) due to their faith, which represents 72% of Christians killed worldwide. The Open Doors World Watch List reported that 3,490 Christians were martyred for their faith in Nigeria last year, contributing to 52,000 + fatalities in the last decade. Nigeria is currently considered to be the most dangerous country for Christians to live in worldwide.

The situation is worsened by frequent kidnappings ( around 1,800 were reported abducted in the first 96 days of 2026). An estimated of 10% of people do not survive abductions due to violence or neglect. Most attacks and kidnappings are carried out by the armed militants Islamic groups, such as ISWAP, Boko Haram, and Fulani muslims. Sadly, the persecuted Christians in Nigeria receive little to no help from their government due to severe economic difficulties that the country has been facing in the last years, as well as the lack in security measures.

As mentioned above, in addition to high Christian persecution rates, Nigeria has been going through severe economic challenges as well, most of which are due to the country's high inflation rates. The latest annual averages have been exceeding 30%. In some areas of the country food inflation has escalated to 50%.

Just like most Nigerian families, pastor G's family has been struggling with providing for such a large family under their current unstable economical condition. Currently, his family lives in a small 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment with no kitchen (a small walkway was transformed into a place for preparing food). The family has 3 sets of triple bunk beds jammed in the bedroom, family room, and walkway. The power outages are very frequent in Nigeria, which means that there is little to no air circulation in their tiny apartment. While they are grateful for what they have, they dream about having a bigger and more comfortable space to live in.

The initial $5,000 gathered from this fund are intended to pay for rent of a larger 3 bedroom apartment where the family can reside while they are gathering the required documents, acquire visas and whatever else is needed for their relocation. The rest of the cost is meant to cover applications/visas/medical examinations/interview costs, as well as the air fare tickets for the 16 family members. The remaining of the money is meant to cover the initial 3 months of living after the relocation (food/rent/transportation) until the working aged people are able to find jobs.
