Hello, my name is Parker. I live with my mom and our cat, Binx. We recently lost the home we owned because of an illegal and deeply unfair eviction. Our landlords were neglectful and cruel from the start.
For almost two years, we couldn’t live in our home because they never installed the electrical box. Once they finally did—after nearly a year of waiting—we still had no running water the entire time. We eventually had no choice but to move in despite having no basic utilities. For those last few months, my mom continued trying to fix the home herself, even though these repairs were the landlord’s responsibility.
Because of the unstable living situation, being in a different state from where we previously lived, no running water, and an unreliable 30-year-old car, neither of us were able to get jobs. The park managers also blocked us from receiving mail, took our trash cans, and even broke into our home, trashed it, and harassed us repeatedly to try to force us out. Still, we held on and kept trying to make it work.
Eventually, they locked us out completely. They took everything inside our trailer—and then took the home itself. We had stopped paying lot rent only after months of being told that utilities would be fixed and never were. Even then, my mom still tried paying to fix things herself because we realized they never intended to do their part.
We put nearly two years of work into that home—driving an hour each way to repair what we could in both the heat and cold, without utilities. We spent countless hours and what little money we had making it a place for me, my mom, and my little sister to finally feel safe again.
Their lawyer told us we would be allowed to remove our belongings before leaving, but that was a lie. When my mom returned after driving two hours to bring my things to a friend for safekeeping, the police were waiting. They were rude and dismissive and told us we were not allowed on the property at all—not even to get our cat’s food.
My mom lost all of her belongings, and I lost some of mine. The only reason I have most of my things is because she put me first and moved as much as she could the night before, leaving herself with almost nothing—not even clean clothes.
This home was supposed to be our fresh start after a painful breakup years ago. We never imagined our new beginning would be taken from us like this.
Right now, we have nowhere to go, no money, and we’re trying to keep ourselves—and our cat—safe.
Any donation, no matter the amount, will help us cover basic needs and work toward securing a new place to live. Thank you for reading and for any support you can give.
