Stop Poachers! Give a Park Ranger in Africa a Bike
Donation protected
I'm Louisa, aka The Existential Biker. Riding my motorbike connects me to the earth and nature, I know how lucky I am and how beautifully and wondrously diverse this world is. I've always tried to combine my passion for riding with something bigger than myself. When I heard about Rally for Rangers and their mission to help Park Rangers in some of the most remote and beautiful wildlife parks in their fight against poaching our rarest species it struck me as something important I wanted to get involved in. The creatures of this planet need our protection because we are slowly but surely wiping them out. In doing so, we don't realise it but we are also certainly sealing our fate. An existential crisis of our own making. We are currently in earth's sixth mass extinction event.
There are huge national parks in Namibia, home to Lions, Elephants, Black and White Rhinos, Cheetahs, Buffalo and Leopards to name a few. Namibian Community Rangers protect the wildlife that wanders or live beyond the borders of its National Parks but they don't always have the means to patrol the parks effectively. This is where Rally for Rangers comes in. With donations, they're able to purchase motorbikes on our behalf to give to the Rangers, making their job to catch or deter poachers and hunters much easier.
- In 2022, 87 rhinos were poached for their horns in Namibia, up a staggering 93% on the figure for 2021. The Black Rhino is CRITICALLY endangered with some Rhino species already extinct. https://www.savetherhino.org/rhino-species/black-rhino/poaching-in-namibia-almost-doubles-in-2022/
Please please support me in raising funds for a motorbike for me personally to deliver to Namibia (probably a Yamaha AG200, gutsy beast to cope with the harsh environment) this July (2023) and hand over to a delighted and deserving Park Ranger. Their jobs are super hard and dangerous so they deserve all the help they can get. The Thin Green Line Foundation reported that in 2018 over 1000 park rangers were killed by poachers between 2008 and 2018.
This motorbike and others like it will help them get around their patch faster and more reliably, it will make a REAL difference and YOU will have helped make it happen! You will be able to follow progress on my social media channels and also on the Rally for Rangers website and social. Links are below. There's also a competition to win a trip to Mongolia on their website which is well worth an entry for bikers among you!
And if you want to hear more about the trip from me first hand, come along to the Overland Event in the UK in August, where I'll be giving a talk. I'll make it interesting!
THANK YOU so much for anything you can give. I won't let you down. All the funds go towards the bike and spares, not me or my expenses. And, if you wish, I'll credit you in a film I'll be making of the trip.
