My best friend Paris is in dire need of funds to gain custody of her child. Paris is in the midst of a insanely expensive legal battle with her child’s father for their child. Throughout her pregnancy with living with her child’s father, who lives in Baltimore, MD where she moved to and resided with him he was emotionally unsupportive, cheating, and manipulative. Due to that and other factors, shortly after she gave birth, Paris experienced Postpartum depression. When she began to feel suicidal she decided to leave Baltimore and return to Chicago, her home state, to be with her family and have support. Both parents agreed to co parent and the child’s father stated he would bring the baby to Chicago to be with Paris once she got settled. She left London with her father and his family until she could get herself stable to have her child with her. He then apologized for his infidelity and wanted his family back and to pursue their relationship again, and even wanted to get her pregnant again. After Paris refused to get back with him and only wanting to see London after she caught him again talking to the other woman he became spiteful and refused to let her see London for months. It also didn’t help that travel bans limited/canceled her arrangements to get and be with her child during the month of March. She left in January, but she would call to talk to London and sent money and clothes for her regularly as well as took frequent trips forcing her presence to be with the child despite the father not wanting her around and trying to alienate her from her child. Her child’s father refused to accept the money Paris sent for the child. Refused a written co parenting agreement. Refused to let her see London on occasion. Paris attempted to see her child again, he told her she had no right to because she abandoned her baby-a complete lie. He even opened a case against her and filed for sole custody and told her to just wait until court to see her baby. I hated seeing my friend suffer because of her abusive ex and his family that only furthered the problem so we figured out a plan to get her baby back. Paris flew to Baltimore and got London back-something we told no one else was happening. When they found out London was gone they finally started moving the case forward and he has called DCFS on her saying that she will harm her child physically and that she’s unfit to care for the child but she has never harmed her baby in any way and DCFS did not take her child from her. He refuses to let London be with her mother and is even trying to use her postpartum against her, even though he caused a lot of strain on her mental and for lack of care did not take her postpartum seriously when she was with him. In fact he would complain to her that she was “too emotional” and “too sensitive.” She sought therapy by herself to get the help she needed, which was around the time she found out he was cheating on her. He even stated “we were never supposed to coparent” referencing the failed relationship. She needs help to hire an attorney, pay legal fees, and possibly relocate.
