Hi everyone. I am fostering this sweet 2 month old puppy named Papi who is having a lot of difficulty using his back legs. He was taken to our vet yesterday. Here is an update: 1) Dr. Mukhtar at Laguna Beach Veterinary Medical Center believes Papi has a neurological condition. 2) Our vet did an exam, bloodwork and x-rays of his spine today, which we won’t get results for until tomorrow. 3) Dr. Mukhtar wants Papi to see a neurologist to get an MRI and diagnosis. 4) I’ll update you again once Dr. Mukhtar gives us an update of his x-rays and bloodwork. It’s likely Papi will need to have a back wheelchair to take walks. Papi has an appointment on Wednesday, August 18 to see the neurologist Dr. Wayne Berry at Blue Pearl. This will cost $250. Someone has offered to pay the exam fee, but Blue Pearl wants them to call in her payment immediately after they give me the invoice after Papi is seen by the neurologist. Hopefully it all works out. They couldn’t give me a direct quote for an MRI, but they gave me a ballpark figure of a minimum of $3,000, but could get as high as $5,000. I’m hoping once Dr. Berry sees him, he’ll be able to give me an estimate for whichever MRI he wants to do. For now we know the minimum is $3,000, so let’s at least raise that much for now.
