Help Papa with Medical Expenses

We have set up this GoFund Me page to help pay for some unexpected medical expenses. After receiving some devastating news, we know there is a long road to recovery for my dad.

Thanksgiving day my dad had an awful accident and had to be rushed to the hospital. He had fallen off a horse after the saddle snapped and the horse took off. From the fall, he was bleeding from his head and felt something crack when he tried getting up. That day the results showed a fractured ankle and broken leg. Luckily his head was okay which was a big relief for everyone. They placed a temporary cast on his leg but he was told to see an orthopedic specialist ASAP. There was a long wait due to the holidays to see the specialist to know for sure if surgery was going to be necessary.

Today the doctor informed us that the injuries were far worse than we originally thought from the initial scans that were taken at the hospital. As a result, surgery is the only option and it has to be performed within 20 days of injury. We have set him up for Monday, December 6th which was the first availability. In addition, they expect recovery to be 6 months if everything goes as planned.

My parents have now lost their own source of income for approximately the next 6 months. My dad had been the sole provider for some time. Earlier this year they lost their medical insurance as my mom was not cleared to return to work after a bilateral knee surgery and she is now struggling to get on disability. Despite their loss of income and lack of medical insurance, for my dad to get his surgery he has to pay upfront “deposits” for these unexpected medical expenses.

They were visiting family in another state and cannot fly back home until he has clearance from his doctor. My dad has always been a hard worker and prioritized his family and their well being. He is now in a situation where he has lost all control of his income and health. He is strong and remains positive of the outcome but we can’t ignore the financial stressors that will come of this.
