Help Panda with his Liver Cancer Treatments

Hello to our amazing community! As many as you may know, Panda was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer called Hepatobiliary Carcinoma. Panda had a tumor about the size of an orange measuring 63 x 55x 38mm back in August 2020. At the time, Panda was said by the vet to have only 1 year left before he would pass away if we didn't remove the tumor. Surgery was the best method to extend his life. Knowing the chances of the surgery being 80% successful and 20% unsuccessful, I decided to take the jump to try save his life. Thankfully, the surgery was successful. However, after the biospy, as mentioned, we found that this type of liver cancer is rare. So, the tumor can grow back and possibly spread (although, a low chance), as the oncologist mentioned.

Dogs with the more common liver cancer called Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), generally, have a good prognosis and pass away after 4 years due to factors unrelated to the cancer. However, for Panda, we just don't know because again, it's a rare type of liver cancer. It's going to depend on whether or not the tumor grows back.

If it does grow back, UC Davis has some innovative chemotherapy treatments that we can try because I don't think we can do another surgery at Panda's age. I might have to update the funding goal if that is the case. I'm not sure what I would do. That would be the worst-case scenario and I'm praying the tumor doesn't grow back. Everything has been good so far though (crossing fingers the tumor doesn't grow back)! We'll just have to see what the future holds.

So, that's why I created this fundraiser to keep up with all the payments I'm making for Panda because unfortunately, there is no cure for Panda's cancer, but there are things we can do to try to reduce the chance of the tumor from growing back. Thanks to the generous support of the Tiktok community we've been able to afford many holistic vet appointments as well as ultrasound and chest x-ray follow-up appointments to keep Panda in good health.

Panda gets acupuncture, replenishment of supplements directed by the vet, and ozone therapy every month. He also gets fed a home-made, organic slow-cooked diet. His diet consists of organic protein (usually lamb and/or venison), vegetables, organ meat and supplements. All these treatments help Panda's immune system so his body can fight the cancer.

Panda also gets an ultrasound and chest x-ray every 6 months or so, now. Previously, we were getting them every 3 months, but on 04/07/2022, the vet mentioned we can start pushing the ultra sounds to every 6 months instead of 3. Chest x-rays usually happen every 6 months, too. The ultrasounds are to check if whether the tumor grew back or not while for the chest x-rays, are to check if whether the cancer has spread or not.

Panda also receives a deep massage and laser therapy every month, too for his joints. He was already showing some signs of wear on his legs, but after the surgeries, he seems to be having a harder time to lift his leg to urinate. Additionally, some of the supplements given are to help with this as well. All of these appointments are ongoing and will probably continue forever until Panda passes away!

Since the date of the surgery until now, I've paid over $15,000+ just for the ultrasounds, chest x-rays and surgery, alone. The surgery cost around $6900 and the rest went to the ultrasounds + chest x-rays. This doesn't include all the supplements I purchased for him and appts I made with various holistic vets either.

If you can help donate or share Panda's GoFundMe page, it would be greatly appreciated and mean the world to us. Also, while donations are greatly appreciated, they are never necessary. Your support is more than we can ask for. We really appreciate it!

The funds raised will be used for the following:
  • Panda's monthly vet bills mentioned (about $500-$600 per month)
  • Panda's homemade cooked diet ($200-$250 per month)
  • Panda's ultrasounds and chest x-rays ($500-$1200 every 6 months or so depending on what diagnostics need to be done)
  • Gas expenses to drive Panda to his vets
  • The debt accumulated. I am in no position to afford all these payments I'm making in the present and in the past for Panda. For example, I just used the credit I had and borrowed money from others during the surgery to extend his life.
  • A portion might go to some of my personal bills to make ends meet, now (updated May 16 2022). I've given up some of my photography gigs and other work so I can be with Panda just in case his tumor grows back. I'm also, currently looking for a way to make income at home so I can stay home as much as possible with Panda during this time of need.

I will attach a variety of documentation for all the procedures and will black out some information just for privacy below.

Update (April 7th, 2022): I've decided to take out the surgery and re-check up ultrasounds +/- chest x-ray invoices for privacy, but will leave his diagnosis of the tumor pre-surgery and post-surgery. Thanks so much again for your consideration!
